V 1941 godu kanadskii astronom Endryu Mak-Kellar (Andrew McKellar, 1910-1960) analiziroval linii poglosheniya, vyzyvaemye v spektre zvezdy 2 Zmeenosca mezhzvezdnymi molekulami ciana (soedineniya ugleroda i azota). On prishel k vyvodu, chto eti linii (v vidimoi glazom oblasti spektra) mogut voznikat' tol'ko pri pogloshenii sveta vrashayushimisya molekulami ciana. Prichem vrashenie ih dolzhno vozbuzhdat'sya izlucheniem s temperaturoi okolo 2,3 Kel'vina. Ni sam Mak-Kellar, ni kto drugoi, konechno, ne podumali togda o vozmozhnosti togo, chto vrashenie molekul vyzyvaetsya reliktovym izlucheniem. Da i sama teoriya goryachego Bol'shogo vzryva Vselennoi poyavilas' tol'ko v 1946 godu!
Reliktovoe izluchenie obnaruzhil v 1955 godu aspirant-radioastronom Tigran Aramovich Shmaonov (1932 g.r.). Pervoe opublikovannoe priznanie izlucheniya poyavilos' vesnoi 1964 goda v kratkoi stat'e A.R. Doroshkevicha i I.D. Novikova, ozaglavlennoi "Srednyaya plotnost' izlucheniya v metagalaktike i nekotorye voprosy relyativistskoi kosmologii" [Doklady AN SSSR, t.154, vyp.4, str. 119-121 (809-811)]. Mikrovolnovoe fonovoe izluchenie nazval "reliktovym" sovetskii astrofizik Iosif Samuilovich Shklovskii (1916-1985) v 1978 godu [gazeta "Sovetskaya Rossiya", 20.08.1978].
Naryadu s kosmologicheskim krasnym smesheniem, reliktovoe izluchenie rassmatrivaetsya kak odno iz glavnyh podtverzhdenii teorii Bol'shogo vzryva.\\\
