Ocenka rasstoyaniya provedena vpervye. Bol'shoi interval v neskol'ko kiloparsek svyazan kak s protyazhennost'yu samogo oblaka, imeyushego bol'shoi uglovoi diametr, tak i s neobhodimost'yu utochneniya etogo rezul'tata s pomosh'yu dal'neishih nablyudenii. Metallichnost' "kompleksa S" sostavlyaet 15% ot solnechnoi. Izmerenie kolichestva neitral'nogo vodoroda vdol' oblaka po luchu zreniya pozvolilo ocenit' massu neitral'nogo vodoroda. Nablyudenii v linii H_alpha pokazali, chto soderzhanie neitral'nogo i ionizovannogo gaza v oblake primerno odinakovy. Obshaya ocenka massy oblaka sostavila 3.-14. x 106 solnechnyh mass, chto sootvetstvuet tempu akkrecii 0.1-0.25 mass Solnca/god. Obshii temp akkrecii mezhgalakticheskogo gaza Galaktikoi ocenivaetsya kak 1 massa Solnca/god, potomu vklad oblaka "kompleks S" sostavlyaet ot 10 do 25%. Rasstoyanie do vysokoskorostnyh oblakov ostavalos' zagadkoi dolgoe vremya. Sovremennye nablyudeniya pokazyvayut, chto VSO nahodyatsya v predelah galo Galaktiki, a ih nizkaya metallichnost' i napravlenie dvizheniya podtverzhdayut tot fakt, chto Galaktika na protyazhenii vsei evolyucii nepreryvno "podpityvaetsya" gazom izvne. Zadachei posleduyushih issledovanii budet postroenie trehmernoi karty raspredeleniya VSO.

Svetimost' ochen' bol'shaya - pod 1040 erg/s. Istochnik sil'no peremennyi. Poluchen i opticheskii spektr, kotoryi, po mneniyu avtorov, govorit v pol'zu ih interpretacii. Sootvetstvenno, oni polny entuziazma i prizyvayut iskat' chernye dyry v dvoinyh sistemah v sharovyh skopleniyah Mlechnogo Puti (rech' idet o dyrah v spokoinom sostoyanii, kogda net moshnoi akkrecii, inache davno by uzhe otkryli).
