V. c. nachinaetsya reakciei stolknoveniya dvuh protonov (1H, ili r) s obrazovaniem yadra deiteriya (2D). Deiterii reagiruet s protonom, obrazuya legkii izotop geliya 3Ne s ispuskaniem gamma-fotona (g). 3Ne mozhet reagirovat' dvumya razlichnymi putyami: dva yadra 3Ne pri stolknovenii obrazuyut 4Ne s otshepleniem dvuh protonov libo 3Ne soedinyaetsya s 4Ne i daet 7Ve. Poslednii v svoyu ochered' zahvatyvaet libo elektron (e-), libo proton i voznikaet eshe odno razvetvlenie proton - protonnoi cepochki reakcii. V rezul'tate V. c. mozhet zakanchivat'sya tremya razlichnymi putyami I, II i III. Dlya realizacii vetvi I pervye dve reakcii V. c. dolzhny osushestvit'sya dvazhdy, poskol'ku v etom sluchae ischezayut srazu dva yadra 3Ne. V vetvi III ispuskayutsya osobenno energichnye neitrino pri raspade yadra bora 8V s obrazovaniem neustoichivogo yadra berilliya v vozbuzhdennom sostoyanii (8Ve*), k-roe pochti mgnovenno raspadaetsya na dva yadra 4Ne.

sluchaev V. c. zakanchivaetsya vetv'yu I, v 30% -
vetv'yu II, a na dolyu vetvi III prihoditsya menee
0,1% sluchaev. V poslednei stroke tabl.
priveden itog V. c.: kazhdaya vetv'
zakanchivaetsya obrazovaniem yadra 4Ne iz
chetyreh protonov s ispuskaniem dvuh
neitrino. Pri etom vydelyaetsya energiya 26,73
MeV, iz k-roi v srednem ok. 0,6 MeV unosyat
neitrino.
