Море Кризисов крупным планом

Один из самых характерных районов на Луне — Море Кризисов, которое изолировано от всех других морей и его можно увидеть даже без бинокля. Море Кризисов, как и Море Влажности, пострадало от ударов глыб космического мусора сравнительно мало и глубокий слой остывшей лавы украшает всего несколько кратеров.

Вся область южного полюса Луны представляет собою драматическую какофонию из кратеров и пиков. Экстремальные ракурсы и весьма пересеченная местность делают эту область весьма трудной для навигации. И все это только для земных наблюдателей, а представьте, какие проблемы по навигации встанут перед старателями по добыче льда в будущем!

On September 28, 1971, Luna 19 blasted off and nearly disappeared from history. The mission was successful, after a fashion, but coming after the stunning successes of Apollo 11, 12, 14 & 15, and having only lackluster results, no one seemed to notice this little lunar orbiter.

Here is another wonderful image of the Cauchy fault, rilles, domes and crater, to complement the previous low sun view of the western end of this interesting area. This very high resolution image is remarkable for being relatively high sun and yet showing beautifully the low relief domes.

Last month, LPOD featured KC Pau's image of a full Moon view of Mare Serenitatis; here is the companion, shot on the same night, of Mare Tranquilitatis. Once again when the sun is overhead and shadows disappear, a less familiar Moon appears.

В 1978 году Лейф Андерссон и я собрали данные по 2598 свежим (не измененных более поздними ударами или лавой) воронкам и определили пять различных типов, которые описывают 99% лунных кратеров.

It is amazing how many interesting areas of the Moon are nearly completely overlooked until someone captures a great image that says, "Hey, there is something interesting here!" This is that image for some older rilles tucked away in an embayment along the eastern shore of Mare Serenitatis.
